Fitbit Versa vs. Fitbit Versa 2 | The Difference You Need to Know About

Fitbit Versa vs. Fitbit Versa 2 | The Difference You Need to Know About

Fitbit always had a stronghold share of the value end in the health and fitness wearable market with some of the best fitness tracking devices you can buy.

With a somewhat similar look, some notable changes, and a few upgrades - Fitbit launched its Fitbit Versa 2 replacing its predecessor originals Fitbit Versa as one of the best health and fitness tracking wearable watches you can buy right now, but is it enough?

Fitbit Versa vs. Fitbit Versa 2 | The Difference You Need to Know About-logo

While Fitbit still selling its original Versa watch, the Fitbit Versa 2 came out to be a far more interesting and incremental upgrade with a bunch of new features including Always-on display, built-in Amazon Alexa voice commands, extensive health, and fitness tracking, longer battery life, and Fitbit Pay in all models.

However, the question of what difference will it make to influence the upgrade remains unanswered and tricky for most buyers to identify what core change Fitbit has made to differentiate the next-gen Versa 2 fitness wearable from its predecessor.

To explain what has changed, here in this article we’ve identified and brought down the difference that matters while comparing Fitbit Versa 2 with its previous-gen original Versa smart wearable.

Display and Design

With similar square face and rounded, chamfered edges of 40 x 40 x 12 mm dimensions, weighing in at 38 grams and 300 x 300 pixel resolution, the Fitbit Versa 2 and Versa 1 are almost identical and similar in terms of design and pixel resolution.

However, one of the biggest notable changes which make Fitbit Versa 2 a more attractive timepiece is – Always-On Display. This headline feature along with never sleeping display allows users to see the time constantly, like a normal watch, with you no longer requiring to tap the screen or raise your wrist to see the time.

More tangible improvement in the Fitbit Versa 2 is an easy-to-read AMOLED screen. Fitbit has gone from original LCD to AMOLED and that translates to deeper blacks and more vibrant colors for the smartwatch wearer.

All of the images and pictures you see on your watch face are really going to pop. Speaking of watch faces, both Versa 1 and 2 feature a fully customizable watch face that gives you an option of hundreds of clock faces to choose from the Fitbit app, thus, providing you a more aesthetic and pleasing look.

Technical Know-how

Perhaps, one of the biggest smart-technical difference between the original Fitbit Versa and the Versa 2 is the fact that the Versa 2 comes with an in-built microphone and Amazon’s Alexa Support for Voice Commands. All you have to do is set it up and hold down the button to the side of the display to start talking to Alexa.

You'll be able to perform tasks like ask Alexa to set up reminders, answer questions, or follow simple commands such as - turn the lights on if you have smart-home already set-up. This isn't made available on the original Versa, so, if you're keen to step up with technicalities, the newer version Fitbit Versa 2 has a clear advantage.

The ability to set up or sync your Versa smartwatch is the same for both the versions. With Android 7 and iOS 11+ compatibility and the latest version of the Fitbit app, you’ll be able to connect, sync, download, and access your data anytime.

Health and Fitness Tracking

There’s no match for Fitbit smartwatches when it comes to tracking health and fitness. Both Versa versions having the same health and fitness features, however, Versa 2 has extensive health and fitness features to offer with updated sleep monitoring and tracking.

Both Versa versions feature 24/7 heart-rate monitoring and more than 15 exercise modes through which you can track your workouts, the number of calories you burned, and the number of stairs you climbed, all can be reviewed right from your Versa screen.

Fitbit also offers female health-tracking, guided breathing, and insights about your activity and nutrition, but the headline with the Versa 2 is its in-depth sleep tracking with a smart wake mode that’s supposed to pick the right time to wake you up in the morning, providing you with a sleep score, and detailed insights into your sleep stages and overall sleep quality.

Battery Life

Despite the addition of always-on AMOLED display, extensive health and fitness tracking, and built-in Alexa support, Fitbit Versa 2 offers longer battery life than the original Versa smartwatch.

You can expect five days plus battery life from a single charge on Fitbit Versa 2, which is a significant boost over the original Versa’s four days battery life.

Price and Other Features

The standard edition of the Fitbit Versa 2 is priced at $199.95, with a special edition priced at $229.95, which includes three months of Fitbit Premium. Amazon is selling the Original Fitbit Versa for $30 less than the Fitbit Versa 2. So, you're getting a whole lot more features and tech upgrades in Versa 2 for just a few dollars more.

Both the versions of Fitbit Versa are swim-proof to a depth of 50 metres.

Fitbit Versa 2 allows you to use Fitbit Pay to make payments with your watch. Fitbit has included Fitbit Pay support on all models of the Fitbit Versa 2.

FINAL VERDICT AND COMPARISON

The bottom line – Is it worth it? Or should you upgrade? For most, the answer to that question is “Yes” However, the Fitbit Versa 2 is a major improvement to the original Fitbit Versa with key features like more powerful processor, always-on screen, Alexa Voice Support, and longer battery life.

In our view, both smartwatches offer a similar software experience, running Fitbit OS and syncing through the Fitbit app, the upgrades and improvements offered by the Fitbit Versa 2 are worth the small thump in cost, and we'd ultimately recommend the newer model to most people. To summarize, here’s a brief comparison between Fitbit Versa 2 and Versa 1:

Garmin Fenix 6 Review

Garmin’s Fenix series is considered to be at the top of Garmin’s products tree. This series pretty much has it all when it comes to hardcore outdoor activity tracking and fitness. To step up the game and compete with the latest offerings from other competitors, Garmin released the Fenix 6 series in the August of 2019. This series brought some new features over the Garmin Fenix 5 plus. Garmin Fenix 6 Review

The Gamin Fenix 6 series comes in a handful of different models for the people of different preferences. First of all, there’s the regular Fenix 6 which has a 47mm case. Then, there’s the slightly compact version with a 42mm case, called the Fenix 6S. Above these, is the Garmin Fenix 6 pro — it adds WiFi compatibility, music compatibility, and maps on the top of existing Fenix 6 features. Then there’s the Fenix 6X which packs a slightly larger battery for the more power-hog users. There’s the Garmin Fenix 6 Sapphire and finally the Fenix 6 Pro Solar, which is the top-spec version of the Fenix 6X. It boasts a lightweight titanium body and solar panels spread across the entire rim for some extra battery life.

First of all, let us take a look at the Garmin Fenix 5.

Garmin Fenix 5

We are starting our list with the Garmin Fenix 5. Fenix 5 is a premium Gps multisport smartwatch for fitness and all kind of various adventures. Garmin Fenix 6

You’re not going to have many new features while upgrading from a Garmin Fenix 5 plus to a Fenix 6 series model — but still, there are several things to love in this smartwatch. Fenix 6 is the go-to watch for everyone who’s a hardcore adventurer or sports-person. It comes with many features covering almost any outdoor activity ranging from triathlon tracking to skiing. It’s suitable for amateur, pro, and even advanced adventurers alike.

How does Garmin Fenix 6 work?

The Garmin Fenix 6 series looks much like the Fenix 5 plus when it comes to design and functionality. There are not many visible differences between Fenix 6 and its predecessor. Both of them, the Fenix 5 and the Fenix 6 are huge and bulky pieces of wearables. They’re not the prettiest and most stylish smartwatches out there — but that’s not what they were designed to achieve. Check out the Garmin Vivoactive series for that.

With its incredible build quality, ruggedness, and a huge display which has some unique perks of its own — the Fenix 6 aims to be and works pretty well as your go-to adventurer and hardcore sports watch.

Garmin Fenix 6 Review

Our Garmin Fenix 6 review:

There’s not much to notice as a differentiating factor between the Fenix 5 plus and the Fenix 6 when put side-by-side — that’s because the updates are pretty much minor. Both of them look much bulkier and bigger than any other smartwatch available in the market. But that’s not essentially a bad thing when you get an incredible battery life and rugged build quality. Fenix 6 is slightly thinner (1.1mm to be precise) than the Fenix 5 plus. That may not feel like much but it’s indeed noticeable when you can feel the 7g weight reduction in Fenix 6 when compared to Fenix 5 plus. This is a welcomed improvement as the Fenix 5 plus was still very bulky for most people.

This display, this time around, is also slightly bigger and better. The Fenix 5 plus had a 1.2inch 240x240 display. Fenix 6, on the other hand, has a new 1.3inch 260x260 display. The numbers aren’t vastly different but the size difference is noticeable when the extra real-estate is efficiently used to output more information in a streamlined manner. For instance, you can now fit 8 of your favorite activity measurements along the edges of the display, compared to 6 in the case of Fenix 5 plus. As expected, there’s a huge list of endless menus correlating to different features included in Fenix 6. Having more of your favorite and most-used activity stats along the edges saves you from the hassle of having to hunt through these menus. The resolution upgrade is also a neat addition as it increases visibility and readability in a display like this.

Garmin Fenix 6 Review

Where the majority of other smartwatches achieve their display brightness through a backlit AMOLED screen, Gamin uses something called the MIP (memory-in-pixel) technology. When you’re in a well-lit outdoor environment, this technology uses external lights to illuminate the pixels on the screen to display information. In dark environments, it uses a simple LED backlight for the purpose. Doesn’t sound super-fancy, but works well.

When it comes to the overall design and aesthetics, the Fenix 6 is not something that you’ll wear as a fashion piece — it’s not designed to work like that. It’s only ideal for outdoor activities and adventure sessions.

In the case of what the Fenix 6 is designed for — it’s a champ. No matter what type of activity you throw at it, it can handle it.

Pros:

  • No matter what type of outdoor activity you throw at it, it can handle it.
  • The design is solid and robust for all the rugged outdoor needs.
  • The accuracy of activity tracking is up to the mark.
  • Loaded with tons of features.
  • The Pro Solar version comes with the solar charging feature.

Cons:

  • It’s super expensive. The cheapest model starts at around $600 and goes up to more than $1000 for the most expensive one.
  • It’s huge. The design could be too bulky and heavy for most people.
  • It’s not the most stylish and nicest looking smartwatch out there.
  • It doesn’t come with many new features when compared to the Fenix 5 plus.

Garmin Fenix 6

Pros

  • Design
  • Activity Tracking
  • Diverse Outdoor Activity Tracking

Cons

  • Price

Conclusion:

The Garmin Fenix 6 series is the perfect fit for everyone who’s a hardcore adventurer and sports freak — provided you can afford it. Plus, the size and bulkiness of the Fenix 6 could be a deal-breaker for the people with small to medium wrist sizes.

If you’re someone who’s looking for a smartwatch that doesn’t have to be the most stylish of them all, and you’re fine with the expensive price tag and bulky design, the Fenix 6 is probably the way to go for you.

Apple Watch Series 5 vs. Series 4 | The Difference that Matters

Apple Watch Series 5 vs. Series 4 | The Difference that Matters

Apple Watch Series 5 vs. Series 4 | The Difference that Matters

With an identical look, some notable changes, and a few upgrades - Apple launched its Apple Watch Series 5 replacing its predecessor Apple Watch Series 4 as one of the best smartwatches you can buy right now, but is it enough? While Apple still selling its Series 3 and Series 4 smartwatches, the Apple Watch 5 came out to be a far more interesting upgrade with an Always-On Retina display, a built-in compass, and new material options.

However, the question of what difference will it make to influence the upgrade remains unanswered and tricky for most buyers to identify what core change Apple’s made to differentiate the next-gen Series 5 smartwatch from its predecessor.

To explain what has changed, here in this article we’ve identified and brought down the difference that matters while comparing Apple Watch Series 5 with its previous-gen Series 4 smartwatch.

  1. Display and Design

With a small bezel 324 x 394 pixels for 40mm and 368 x 448 pixels for 44mm OLED display, the Apple Watch Series 5 and Series 4 are almost identical and unchanged in terms of design and measurements.

However, one of the biggest notable changes and often-most requested feature by many watch users over the past few years which makes Apple Watch Series 5 a more attractive timepiece is – Always-On Retina Display. This headline feature along with never sleeping display allows users to see the time constantly, like a normal watch, with you no longer requiring to tap the screen or raise your wrist to see the time.

Thanks to the new low-temperature, ultra-low power ambient light sensor which makes the viewing area stretched deep into the rounded corners and refrain the display to drain out all the power. Thus, enabling you to keep an eye on the information that’s most important to you even when the screen is dimmed and the wrist isn’t up.

The always-on display applies to the workout app on Apple Series 5 to easily track your time, heart rate, and calories on the go. The integration of using 100% recycled aluminum and titanium for durability has notably enhanced the experience of using smartwatches.

1. Health and Fitness Tracking

There’s no match for Apple Watch when it comes to tracking health and fitness. It can automatically recognize exercises, recommends workout plans, and with the help of Watch OS 6 built-in heart rate tracking app, you can conduct an ECG on the go.

One feature that sets apart Apple Watch Series 5 from the Series 4 is – A Built-In Compass. Unlike the Series 4 and its predecessors, Series 5 is the first to feature a built-in magnetic compass with its new application designed just for Series 5. The biggest benefit it gives to the users is that one does not need to download third-party applications for the compass. This feature not only brings improvements to watch faces and Apple Maps but with the help of satellite mapping support it will also show you incline, elevation, longitude and, latitude, thus enhancing the overall experience of navigating and moving around.

The Apple Watch Series 4 does not feature a dedicated Compass application, therefore missing out a lot on the updates and mapping features especially to those who like hiking and other outdoor activities.

2. Built-In Storage

One may not be able to notice the difference physically, but if you are someone who loves to download apps and listen to music, here’s a piece of good news for Apple Watch users – the two-fold increase in on-device storage in Apple Watch Series 5 to 32 GB from its predecessor’s 16 GB storage space.

Now with both GPS and GPS + Cellular version will offer 32 GB storage space on Apple Watch Series 5, you’ll be able to download more apps directly from App Store on your watch.

Apple Watch Series 5 vs. Series 4 | The Difference that Matters

2. Battery Life

Despite the addition of always-on retina display, more built-in storage, and compass application it is disappointing to see the same 18-hours battery life on Apple Watch Series 5 that Series 4 was able to manage 18-24 hours without any of the listed features.Apple Watch Series 5 vs. Series 4 | The Difference that Matters

However, with an always-on display, it requires more power and processor running all the time. You must be wondering how Apple has achieved this in Series 5 Smartwatch. The answer to the question is – the screen automatically dims with the help of low-power light sensors and switching the refresh rate from 60 Hz to 1 Hz thus, saving more power and providing more efficiency at the same time.

Some of the Apple Watch Series 5 users were seen struggling to get 12-hour battery life throughout the day, unlike Series 4 which was able to extend to a day based on usage. Apple is managing to bring a display and battery improvement in upcoming Watch OS 6 updates, but the battery life differences are worth noting when you are deciding for an upgrade.

4. Price and Other Features

Picking up the next-gen Apple Watch Series 5 still costs the same. Apple has resisted its urge to increase the price on Series 5 with starting price the same asApple Watch Series 5 vs. Series 4 | The Difference that Matters Series 4 was previously - $399 for 40mm aluminum GPS model, $429 for 44mm model, and $499 for GPS + Cellular model. It’s newly added Titanium model will cost as much as $799 and $1299 for the Ceramic model.

Apple has been careful in making sure all of its watch accessories available to continue with the next generations of Apple Watch. All Apple Watch Series 4 straps will continue to work with Watch Series 5. Improved international emergency calling can be seen with new Series 5, unlike series 4 that only let you call emergency services in the country you purchased in.

FINAL VERDICT AND COMPARISON

The bottom line – Is it worth it? Or should you upgrade? For most, the answer to that question is “No” However, the Apple Watch Series 5 is a major upgrade to Series 4 with key features like always-on retina display, more built-in storage space, compass app, and new material options. With that being said, Apple Series 4 Watch is still excellent in terms of battery life-extending to a day and more identical in terms of design and measurement. If things like these don’t matter, then picking Series 4 and saving some money will be the right option for you.

To summarize, here’s a brief comparison between Apple Watch Series 5 and Series 4:-
